    Events at Murray Edwards College

    We offer a range of in-person and online events for school students and teachers throughout the year.

     

    Shadowing Scheme

    Run in conjunction with Cambridge SU (Students' Union). Please see their website for more details.

    • Shadow a current undergraduate
    • Get a feel for life as a Cambridge student
    January / February 2023 Year 12
    Application Days

    For school students who are thinking about applying to Cambridge.

    • Find out about the application process
    • Participate in an interview workshop
    • Participate in a personal statement workshop
    • Talk with undergraduates about student life at Cambridge

    Teachers can make a booking for a school group by emailing outreach@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk

    Individual students can also book a place if their school isn't bringing a group.

    Aspiration Days

    For school students who may aspire to university and who are beginning to consider the choices ahead. These events are for school groups atttending with a teacher or teachers.

    • Hear about post-GCSE opportunities and options including A Level choices
    • Find out more about what it is like to go to university

    Year 10
    She Talks Science Student Conference

    A one-day conference for students who identify as female and who are strongly considering applying to study a STEM subject at university.

    • Hear inspiring women talk about their careers in science
    • Take part in an academic seminar about a topical science issue
    • Hear from current undergraduates about studying science at Cambridge
    • Find out about the Cambridge application process

    If you are interested in attending, please complete this online form by 17:00 on Wednesday 22 March 2023.

    Places are limited, so in the case of the event being oversubscribed, priority will be given to students from state schools. You will be informed whether you have a place by 12:00 on Friday 24 March 2023.

    She Talks Science Webinars

    A series of webinars on a variety of STEM topics for students who identify as female and who are considering studying a STEM subject at university.

    Subject Taster Days

     

    For students who identify as female and who would like to find out more about what it is like to study a particular subject at university.

    • Take part in subject taster sessions led by academics from Murray Edwards College
    • Find out about the Cambridge application process
    • Meet current students who are studying the subject

    She Talks Science Teacher Conference

    An online conference for post-16 STEM teachers and leaders.

    • Engage with academics who are actively involved in science teaching and research at Cambridge University. 
    • Gain a more in-depth understanding of course structure, teaching methods and Admissions in science subjects.
    • Hear from current undergraduates about studying science at Cambridge

    She Talks Science STEP Summer School

    An event for students who identify as female and who are intending to apply for Mathematics at a university which requires STEP (Sixth Term Examination Paper).

    • Participate in workshops and supervisions dealing with the type of maths found in STEP exams
    • Attend Maths talks and Q&A sessions

    Year 12
    Low Participation Neighbourhood (LPN) Summer School

    A two-year long programme run in collaboration with Christ's College and Sidney Sussex College for Year 11 and Year 12 students who live in areas where few young people enter higher education.

    The programme begins with a Summer School at the end of Year 11, hosted by Christ's and Sidney Sussex. Students then recieve continued support during Year 12 and return to Cambridge at the end of the year for an overnight event at Murray Edwards. 

    Year 11 Summer School (Christ's College and Sidney Sussex College)

    • Attend masterclasses given by Cambridge University researchers
    • Meet students currently studying at Cambridge
    • Learn about the Cambridge admissions process
    • Take part in social events

    Year 12 event (Murray Edwards College)

    • Participate in an interview workshop and a personal statement workshop
    • Learn about admissions assessments in specific subjects
    • Gain an in-depth understanding of the Cambridge admissions process
    • Meet students currently studying at Cambridge
    • Take part in social events
