First Year Accommodation

When you first arrive at Murray Edwards, you'll move into a room in one of two bright, modern accommodation blocks on the College site. The vast majority have en-suite bedrooms, while a handful share a bathroom between just two rooms. There are large, well-equipped kitchen-dining rooms, and gorgeous views onto our gardens.

Because all first years live close to one another, you'll easily meet and make friends with your year group, regardless of the subject you're studying. The kitchens have big dining tables and plenty of fridge, freezer and cupboard space, and are designed to create a welcoming and low-pressure space for first years to cook and socialise.

Most rooms have their own shower room, which is not typical for a Cambridge college! They also have a comfortable bed, a desk and plenty of space and storage. We want your university room to feel like home, so students are free to decorate and personalise their rooms with fairy lights, photographs, posters, rugs and even flowers from the college garden.

Second Year and Beyond

For the next two or three years of your degree, you have various accommodation options.

There's Orchard Court, where bedrooms vary in size and style. Top floor rooms here have a particularly cool feature - they're split level! This means your bed is upstairs, and your study, storage and seating space are downstairs.

Students can also live in Paula Browne House or Buckingham House, with their large kitchens and modern interiors. All three of these buildings are on our college site, so you're right in the midst of our main facilities, including the Dome dining hall, tennis courts, music practice rooms, academics' offices, and of course the college gardens!

By third year, some students want to live a bit more independently, and choose to share one of our College-owned houses. Each house has its own bathroom, kitchen, washing machine and garden. All our houses are located within a five-minute walk of the main site, so College facilities and staff are always close by for support.

The Cost of Accommodation

The accommodation charge at Murray Edwards is all inclusive. It covers costs such as the rent of the room, kitchens, heating and lighting, security, IT support/WiFi, maintenance and cleaning of your room and communal areas, upkeep of the grounds, building insurance, residential management/administration and billing. The College has chosen to include all these costs in one Accommodation Charge in order to be clear about the amount it costs to live in College and help students with budgeting. There are no hidden accommodation charges at Murray Edwards.
