There were a lot of happy faces at Murray Edwards on Saturday 30 March as we welcomed 71 alumnae back to College for ‘MA Day'.

MA Day (as it is affectionately called) gives any student who graduated with a BA, the opportunity to take their Master of Arts degree – provided at least two years have passed since they were awarded their BA. The day itself is always very popular and this year was no exception: 71 former students attended the event along with their friends and family, and a number of Fellows.

Celebrations started with tea, sandwiches and photographs – giving everyone the opportunity to chat with their friends and guests as well as with Dame Barbara Stocking, President of Murray Edwards College, and other Fellows.

The weather couldn’t have been better for the procession from College to the Senate House; the sun was shining and everyone had the chance to really soak up the atmosphere. After the ceremony, the new MAs and their guests returned to College where they attended a drinks reception before heading up to dinner in the Dome at 19:00.

Dame Barbara Stocking commented: “One of our main aims at Murray Edwards is to ensure the young women who study here leave with the skills and confidence to achieve their dreams, and are prepared for the challenges ahead. That’s why it’s such a pleasure to welcome back recent graduates and hear about their many and varied accomplishments since graduating. Many thanks to everyone who either helped to organise the day or joined us in our celebrations – it really was a marvellous occasion.”

The College’s relationship with its students does not end with their graduation. There are lots of ways for alumnae to keep in touch and support Murray Edwards. Find out more in the Alumnae section of our website.
