We are delighted to announce that Amika George (2018, History) has been awarded an MBE for Services to Education in the Queen's Birthday Honours.
Amika has campaigned for free period products in schools so that no young person has to miss out on their education because they menstruate.
Since 2017, her not-for-profit organisation, Free Periods, has fought for change and in 2019, they launched a joint legal campaign with the Red Box Project. Together they urged the UK government to comply with its legal obligations to ensure equal access to education for all children. Since then, the government has committed funding for period products in every state school and college in England.
Huge congratulations to Amika!
