Welcome to Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge
Murray Edwards College is distinguished by the warmth of its welcome, the energy and success of its students and alumnae, the creativity inherent in its architecture, art collection and gardens, and by its desire to respond with imagination and enthusiasm to academic, environmental and cultural developments.
We offer an excellent environment for study and a superb venue for academic and professional events.
The College was founded as New Hall in 1954 to bring more women of outstanding potential to Cambridge. In 2008 New Hall announced its renaming as Murray Edwards College, following a generous donation of £30 million from former student Ros Smith and her husband Steve Edwards. The College's Governing Body and alumnae then worked together to establish a new formal name for the College.
“This College gave me the confidence and self-belief to make a contribution on the global stage and I am immensely grateful for that. I want to help today’s talented young women play their part shaping our future as tomorrow’s thinkers and leaders.”
