Welcome to Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge
Murray Edwards College is distinguished by the warmth of its welcome, the energy and success of its students and alumnae, the creativity inherent in its architecture, art collection and gardens, and by its desire to respond with imagination and enthusiasm to academic, environmental and cultural developments.
We offer an excellent environment for study and a superb venue for academic and professional events.
The College was founded as New Hall in 1954 to bring more women of outstanding potential to Cambridge. In 2008 New Hall announced its renaming as Murray Edwards College, following a generous donation of £30 million from Ros Edwards, a former student, and her family. The College's Governing Body and alumnae then worked together to establish a new formal name for the College.
"I am honoured to contribute to this remarkable College. It was founded by, and for, inspiring women, and is sustained through the commitment of the Fellowship, the College staff and the alumnae, who have given of themselves, professionally and personally, to create an environment of energy and purpose."
