Margaret Thomas was a British painter renowned for her lyrical still lifes and landscapes. Influenced by Georges Braque and Philip Wilson Steer, her work explored both structure and spontaneity. She studied at Sidcup School of Art, the Slade School of Fine Art (1936–8), and the Royal Academy Schools (1938). Working solely in oils, Thomas depicted flowers, interiors, and landscapes with strong draughtsmanship and almost abstract design. It is in still life with flowers, an inexhaustible subject for her, that she is best known. She was a member of several art societies and maintained studios in London and Edinburgh.
