A warm Medwards welcome to Matthew Foley who recently joined the Porters' Lodge team at College.

Matthew Foley in the Porters' LodgeWelcome to Murray Edwards, how does it feel to be here?

I'm very pleased to be here. Even in these strange times, I have found the College to be relaxed and friendly. I'm really looking forward to all of the students returning. It will be good to see the College buzzing and full of life.

Has anything surprised you about the College since you joined?

It's a lot bigger than I originally thought. I've been here for three months and I'm still discovering bits of it for the first time. The thing that has really impressed me is the beautiful gardens. I can't wait for spring to see them in all their glory.

Can you tell us a bit about your role and what it involves?

Everybody sees the Porters' Lodge when they enter the College and know that we deal with parcels, post and keys (of which there are thousands!). We also help with all sorts of other enquiries and do security patrols of the College. It's nice that I'm now beginning to get to know more of the students by name.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

    "Mind your own business."

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love listening to classical music and going to concerts. I'm also an avid reader. I have developed a habit of starting to read difficult books, but rarely finishing them.
