A very warm welcome to Mary Graham who has recently joined our Porters' Lodge team. Mary started her career in the horse racing industry, which she greatly enjoyed as she was able to travel around the world and meet some amazing people. Following this, Mary joined the Prison Service where she stayed for 18 years, including three years in the training department preparing and supporting new members of staff.

Mary Graham, College PorterWelcome to Murray Edwards, how does it feel to be here?

It feels good to have arrived at Murray Edwards. Although I've only been here a short time, I already feel like part of the College team and have been made very welcome by all.

Has anything surprised you about the College since you joined?

I was not expecting the modern architecture to be as beautiful as it actually is. I was also taken aback by the stunning gardens and amount of green space within the College grounds.

Can you tell us a bit about your role and what it involves?

The Porters' responsibilities are wide-ranging and include assisting students, staff and visitors on their arrival at College, and dealing with any queries. In essence, we assist with the smooth running of the College and do our best to provide a great service!

What's the best piece of advice you've ever received?

"Never forget that who you are is so much greater than what you do."

    "Listen more than you speak."

What do you like to do in your free time?

I am a lover of all sport especially Moto GP and anything motorbike related. I spend the racing season following my son around the country supporting him racing his motorbike (and keeping my fingers crossed!). I also enjoy running, walking, yoga, Pilates and swimming. I have a passion for animals and love looking after my two dogs and supporting numerous animal charities.
