The Murray Edwards College Dome was full to bursting on 29th and 30th November, with maximum numbers of guests at both Murray Edwards College Christmas Formal Halls.

Students and Fellows gathered for sherry in the stylish Fellows Drawing Room but soon it was time to move up to the Dome Dining Hall, decorated with a soaring Christmas tree and festive table settings. Before dinner guests first enjoyed a selection of carols sung by a small group from the College choir, evoking a joyful and merry atmosphere.

Settling down to a traditional Christmas feast, the diners enjoyed prawn cocktail, roast Norfolk turkey and traditional Christmas pudding. Lighting the pudding was slightly delayed on the 29th, prompting the Fellows to initiate a somewhat raucous version of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas”, which contains the line “Oh, bring us a figgy pudding”. The line was taken up and repeated by all the diners until the flaming dessert was delivered to the tables.

From the Kitchens, Front of House and Events teams, we wish everyone a Very Merry Christmas.
