    Research Interests

Patrick Barrie studies the behaviour of molecules in porous solids. This involves trying to understand adsorption, diffusion and reaction in porous solids. He also has a particular interest in numerical methods for extracting physically meaningful parameters from experimental data on process kinetics.

    Biography

Patrick Barrie studied Natural Sciences at Cambridge (Emmanuel College) and stayed on to obtain his PhD in the area of Physical Chemistry. After a period as a Research Fellow at University College London, he switched discipline and took up a lectureship in Chemical Engineering at Cambridge. He has served a six year stint (2012-2018) as Deputy Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering and Biotechnology, with overall responsibility for teaching activities. He is a Fellow of Emmanuel College. He has acted as External Director of Studies for Murray Edwards College since 1996.
