Rosie Roberts and Isobel Dyson awarded the Robin Hammond Prize in English
Congratulations on this outstanding achievement
This Robin Hammond Prize in English is awarded annually to the English undergraduate who obtains the highest mark in an exam paper or dissertation for English Literature Part I, Paper 4 (Renaissance 1500–1700). This year, Rosie and Isobel jointly secured the top marks, demonstrating exceptional achievement.
Rosie said:
“Thank you to Sean McEvoy for all his help making me love the Renaissance paper for two years!”
Isobel said:
"Undertaking a second-year dissertation on ‘Submission and Loneliness: Milton’s Eve and the Seventeenth-Century Pamphlet Controversy’ was an invaluable opportunity to engage deeply with early modern literature and culture. I am very grateful to Dr Sean McEvoy for his exceptional supervision and insight."
Dr Robin Hammond was appointed College Lecturer in English at New Hall in March 1954 and, alongside Dame Rosemary Murray, was one of the two senior members at the College’s foundation. Dr Hammond directed studies in the Arts subjects and played a key role in managing the College and its students. After the move to Huntingdon Road, she served as Tutor and later Senior Tutor until her retirement in 1974. Before her passing, Dr Hammond was deeply pleased that alumnae wished to establish this prize in her honour.
