Although Congregations are held at intervals throughout the year, the late June or early July Congregation is set aside for what is called General Admission, at which most undergraduates proceed to their first degrees at the end of their final term. Also included at this time are those receiving their Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine.
You will be sent an invitation along with the link to the booking form.
General Admission 2020 for Murray Edwards graduands is Saturday 27 June. This is preceded by a Graduation Dinner in the Dome for graduands and Fellows on Friday 26 June, at 7.30pm, with a reception in the Fellows' Drawing Room from 7.00pm.
Confirmed timetable for 2019 General Admission is here.
Find out about photography at Senate House on Graduation Day.
Please check the academical dress web page for information. You may wear your own academic gown as long as it is clean and pressed. The alternative is to hire a gown and the appropriate hood for the degree that you will be receiving. You will require a gown (no hood) for the Graduation Dinner on Friday. If you order through Ede & Ravenscroft, they offer a 'Collect in College' service; this will be on Friday 26th June between 2.00 and 4.00 pm, to be returned on Saturday following the ceremony. This allows you to collect and return your hired garments at College rather than in town. If you would like to use this service, please book online from 1 April. Please note that it is important that you order your gown and hood well in advance.
All students on termly contracts may remain in College until Monday 24 June without incurring extra rent (except for Buckingham House residents, who will be charged for the College room booked after the end of Full Term on Friday 12 June). All those graduating and on 39-week contracts may stay until Saturday 27 June.
Graduands will not be charged for accommodation booked for the night of Friday 26 June. Please note that although College accommodation is free for Graduands that evening, you still need to book a room with the Accommodation Office. All students and guests will be required to vacate their rooms by 6.00pm on Saturday 27 June.
Guest rooms for family and friends are available on Friday 26th June and Saturday 27 June on a first-come basis and are available to book accommodation online between 1st and 31st May.
You will be sent a promotional code which must be used at the time of booking.
If you or your guests would like to stay for longer than 2 nights, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
A single en-suite is £44.10 and a twin en-suite is £63.63.
Please note, these prices do not include breakfast, which will be available in the Dome Dining Hall for a charge.
At General Admission, as well as taking the formal group photograph, Lafayette photographers will be present in College throughout the day to take studio-style portraits as well as more informal pictures of graduands and their guests in the SCR or Fellows' Garden.
The sitting is free of charge and does not commit you to buying the resulting photographs. All of the photographs will be available on the Lafayette website for you to view and purchase if you wish. You will be given an album code to access your photographs. Lafayette offer a certificate and photo framing service which you can purchase on Friday or Saturday.
You may sign up for 3 Senate House tickets to give to family and friends (you do not need one for yourself). Two of these are guaranteed for entrance to the Senate House, your third ticket will allow entrance to the Senate House (inside), or entrance to the Senate House Lawn only. Whilst we do expect to be able to offer all graduands three inside tickets, we cannot confirm this until after the closing date. If you do receive a ticket for the Senate House Lawn, your guests will be able to enter the Common Room for tea/coffee whilst the congregation takes place. We ask that you please only request the number of tickets that you require.
Graduands are welcome to invite a total of five guests to the Garden Party. There is no charge for the graduand and two guests; an additional three guest tickets may be purchased at £32.00 each (£16.00 for under 12s). Payments made by bank transfer which is preferable (see below). Cheques should be brought to the Graduate Services Office AA1 or put in the Tutorial pigeonhole, made payable to 'Murray Edwards College'. Please make sure your cheque is in a clearly labelled envelope, including your full name and the number of tickets for which you are paying. Please note the deadline for payment is noon on Monday 1 June.
