Murray Edwards College, Cambridge is seeking to elect a new President (Head of House) to succeed Dorothy Byrne from September 2026. The Governing Body invites applications from individuals with a distinguished record of achievement and leadership in academia or another professional field.
Set in iconic 1960s buildings, and with fabulous gardens, the College is a diverse and vibrant community with a collaborative and inclusive ethos dedicated to providing academic excellence in the education of outstanding women from all backgrounds and championing gender equality.
The College (originally named New Hall) was founded in 1954 as a college for women students at the University of Cambridge. Today it comprises a mixed-gender fellowship of 78 GB Fellows, 32 Bye Fellows, 260 postgraduate and 350 undergraduate students and around 120 staff.
Candidates should be committed to furthering the College’s aims, values and ideals, and supporting the highest level of research and education. They should have the ability to combine vision, ambition and consensus building in their leadership, along with the operational acuity to oversee the running of the College.

Murray Edwards College invites applications for a College Lectureship in Law from 1 September 2026. The post will be tenable for two years in the first instance, at which point the appointee will be eligible for a tenured permanent post. Remuneration will be at Point 49 on the University of Cambridge’s salary scale (currently £46,735). Subject to satisfactory appraisal, a College Lecturer shall be eligible for an annual salary increment on the University Lecturer Scale (Points 1-5 on Grade 9 of the University salary scales). The successful candidate will be elected to an Official Fellowship of the College. The post will be fully pensionable.
We welcome applications from applicants who will have completed or be close to completing a Ph.D. in Law and who demonstrate potential to carry out and publish research of the highest calibre. We particularly encourage applications from women and /or candidates from a BME background who are under-represented at this level. Given the nature of the post, the successful candidate will also have experience of teaching at undergraduate level at Cambridge or at another University; and/or have an interest in developing high-quality teaching. Experience of supervision of teaching in at least two of the following papers would be a distinct advantage – Tort, Equity, Contract, Land Law or Civil Law.
Successful candidates must provide satisfactory evidence of eligibility to work in the UK.

Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, seeks to appoint a College Teaching Officer in Economics. The post will be tenable from no later than 1 October 2025 for a fixed period of three years and will be 50% full time equivalent. Remuneration will be at 50% of Point 49 on the University of Cambridge’s salary scale (currently £23,368 per annum). The successful candidate will be elected to an Official Fellowship of the College.
Applications are encouraged from candidates specialising in any field of economics, but the post-holder must be able to teach two or more undergraduate papers in microeconomics, macroeconomics or econometrics of the Economics Tripos. The post-holder will deliver six hours of small-group teaching (‘supervisions’) for the twenty teaching weeks of the academic year. They will also serve as Director of Studies, for which they will be separately remunerated.
