Offerholders for entry in October 2013/14

Congratulations on holding an offer to study with us at Murray Edwards College. We wish you every success in any exams you are currently taking. We hope that you will soon join us. We will use this page to provide you with timely information and to address some FAQs.

Important notice for International Offer Holders

In May 2012 the UK Government announced plans to extend pre-entry tuberculosis (TB) screening to an additional 67 countries identified as having 'high incidence' of TB by the World Health Organisation. Migrants from these countries, applying to enter the UK for more than 6 months, must submit a certificate with the visa application showing that they are free from TB. For more information and updates visit the International Students' Team website. Further information, including a list of those countries likely to be affected, can be found on the UKBA website.

Frequently asked questions

When will I hear from the College?

  • April/May - Letter reminding you about the conditions you must meet to join us, and about finance and accommodation
  • Mid August - Letter following exam results stating whether or not we are able to confirm your place
  • Early Sept - Communication (from our Tutorial Office) about arrangements for joining the College in October

We are moving to a new system this year and will no longer send out financial information via email in March. This information will now be included in our letter in April/May.

Will the College still accept me if I miss the grades set in my conditional offer?

We are not usually able to offer many places to students who have missed their offers although we may do so in a few cases where we feel this is warranted. These decisions are taken when the A level results are published and when we have a sense of the strength of the full subject entry for that year.

What happens if I miss my offer and my school applies for a re-mark?

Our offer letter states that you have a place if you meet the conditions of our offer by August 31st. If you apply for a re-mark and, as a result, show us that you have met your offer by August 31st we will still accept you. If your re-mark is successful but the result is not known to us until after September 1st then we will offer you a deferred place for October 2014 entry (at the least). Please keep in close touch with us if you are applying for a re-mark.

Does the College hold a waiting list or have spare places to fill in August?

The College does not hold a waiting list and does not consider new Cambridge applicants in August.

What if I want to visit the College?

We invite all UK based offerholders to a very popular overnight stay alongside current students (in March).  If you cannot come then or would like to take a look around the College at a different time, please contact the Admissions Office either by e-mail (admissions@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk) or 'phone (01223 762229) as they would be happy to arrange a College tour for you. (Students based in the EU and overseas are also very welcome where travel/distance permits.)
