Info for new International Students
Students coming from overseas are advised to refer to the British Council's Education UK and the UKCISA websites for further useful information.
The University provides an International Student Orientation event on the Friday before start of Michaelmas Term. Information is available here.
The University's International Student Team will assist you with any visa-related issues. You MUST have a valid Tier 4 visa or have proof that you have applied for your visa showing the University of Cambridge as your sponsor before you can begin to study. Within 7 days of your arrival at College, you must present your passport and Tier 4 visa for scanning in the Graduate Services Office.
CUSU International is an autonomous part of CUSU whose objective is to represent and look after the welfare of international students in the University. All international students are automatically members, as well as those who 'self-define' as international.
The College requires you to have a UK bank account once you arrive in Cambridge. There are a number of banks that offer accounts to international students for little or no service charge. Some of the main banks with branches in Cambridge include:
Some banks may take a little time to set up your account so we advise you to make arrangements as soon as possible after arrival. You will need to provide your passport and a letter from the College confirming your student status which you may request via this online form giving the name of the bank(s) you'd like to apply to.
For general information about banking in the UK the British Bankers' Association offers an advice leaflet.
