General Admission

General Admission 2012 - Saturday 30 June

Although Congregations are held at intervals throughout the year, the June/July Congregations are set aside for what is called General Admission, at which most undergraduates proceed to their first Degrees at the end of their final term. Graduation Day 2012, for Murray Edwards graduands, is Saturday 30 June. There will be a Graduation Dinner for graduands and Fellows on Friday evening, 29 June. This will begin with a reception in the Fellows' Drawing Room from 7.00pm, followed by dinner in the Dome at 7.30pm.

Those eligible to attend should have received an invitation letter from the Praelector outlining all the arrangements for this year's Graduation weekend. Please check this webpage regularly in the run-up to the event for any last minute notices or changes to the timetable.

The main Graduation page gives general information about Congregations and matters relating to the presentation of graduands for their degrees, including information about Academical Dress and Photography.

What to wear

If you have your own gown (from Matriculation) you can wear this at General Admission. We would, however, recommend that you have it dry cleaned. The alternative is to hire a gown for the day, as well as the appropriate hood for the degree that you will be receiving. Please check the Academical Dress web page for more information. If you order through Ede & Ravenscroft, they offer a 'Collect in College' service on the day. This allows you to collect and return your hired garments via the College rather than in town. If you would like to use this service, please book online at http://www.edeandravenscroft.co.uk from 1 April. Please note that it is important that you order your gowns and hoods well in advance.

Accommodation

All students may remain in College until Monday 25 June without incurring extra rent (except for Buckingham House residents who will be charged the appropriate rate according to the category of College room booked after the end of Full Term on Friday 15 June).

In addition, Graduands will not be charged for accommodation booked for the Friday night, 29 June. Vacation rent will be charged for the nights of 25 June to 1 July. The rent payable would depend on type of room that is allocated to you, these ranges from £14.94 to £16.53 per night. Please note that although College accommodation is free for Graduands on Friday 29 June, you still need to book a room.

Guest rooms for Friday 29 June will be available to book, for family and friends, between 1 - 28 May 2012, on a first come basis, prices to be advised.  Arrangements should be made either in person or by email to the Accommodation Office (pmw39@cam.ac.uk).

All students and guests will be required to vacate their rooms by 18.00 hours on Saturday 30 June.

Please note: you will not be able to reserve any accommodation until after Saturday 1 May, and reservations will only be confirmed upon full payment.

Tickets for the Ceremony and Garden Party

We can normally only guarantee 3 guest tickets per graduand for friends and family to attend the Congregation at the Senate House as we are only allocated a limited number of Senate House tickets. Although Senate House places are restricted, graduands are welcome to invite any number of guests to the Garden Party. Each graduand will be given a Garden Party ticket and two complimentary guest tickets; additional guest tickets may be purchased at £17.00 each (£8.50 for under 12s). Cheques should be brought to the Tutorial Office or put in the Tutorial Office pigeon hole, made payable to Murray Edwards College. Please make sure your cheque is in a clearly labelled envelope, including your full name and the number of tickets you are paying for.  Payment deadline is Tuesday 29 May.
