Meet Our Students

Jelena Dzankic: PhD in International Studies 2006-2010Studying at Cambridge has been quite a different and unique experience for me. I started the MPhil course in Contemporary European Studies in October 2005. When applying to the University for my MPhil, I did not pick any College in particular, but I was accepted by New Hall. The warm atmosphere among the students, the most helpful staff, a cosy library, the lovely garden, the impressive art collection - all have become a very important part of my life. New Hall also hosts a number of conferences, events and concerts, which make it a great place for exploring different subjects. What I also appreciate about the College is that it is a true collage of women from very different cultures, who are both brilliant students and great friends. Coming from abroad, I found it wonderful that New Hall truly cares about its students. In fact, after having completed my MPhil degree, and after having been accepted to do the PhD in International Studies, I was unable to fulfil the financial conditions for admittance. The College offered me a BP/New Hall Centenary Scholarship, and had it not been for New Hall and its funding for graduates, I would not have been able to pursue my PhD at all. Aside from several major grants, New Hall also has smaller bursaries aimed at assisting students with their research expenses, such as fieldwork, or attendance of conferences. |
