50th Anniversary Campaign
Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we raised a fantastic total of over £6.5 million for our 50th Anniversary Campaign goals:
Student Support
Our alumnae and friends were particularly supportive of our Rosemary Murray Fund for Student Support, with over £1.4million pledged during the Campaign. We also successfully completed the funding of our new graduate accommodation block, Canning and Eliza Fok House.
Teaching and research
During the Campaign we raised funds to endow four Fellowships with £300,000 each: the Greta Burkill Fellowship in Economics, the Roma Gill Fellowship in English, the Zara Steiner Fellowship in History and the Lorna Close Fellowship in Spanish. We also made substantial progress towards endowing Fellowships in Mathematics, Medicine and Natural Sciences, all of which are over half way to completion.
Art Collection
Our outstanding Collection of works by women artists is the largest collection of its kind in Europe. All works are donated or on loan, but during the 50th Anniversary Campaign we raised a total of £184,446 for the Barlow Art Fund, which helps cover the running costs of the Collection. We were also awarded a grant of £99,900 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to cover the costs of an Outreach Manager and Curator for the Collection for three years and the associated costs of publicising the Collection more widely. Fundraising for our Art Collection continues.
Greatest Need
Rather than allocating donations to a specific project, many people gave to our "greatest need", which allows the College Council to allocate funds to its most pressing project each year at its meeting in July. In 2005/6, these donations were allocated to Canning and Eliza Fok House. In 2006/7 greatest need donations were split between our Fellowships in Medicine, Natural Sciences and History. And then in 2007/8 they were allocated to the Zara Steiner Fellowship in History and the Rosemary Murray Fund for Student Support.
During the Campaign we were supported by:
- 15% of our alumnae
- 143 other individuals
- 13 companies
- 13 Trusts/Foundations
- 33% of our Fellows
