Rosemary Murray Fund for Student Support
In a speech made on her 90th birthday, Dame Rosemary Murray, New Hall’s first President, spoke of her sense of a college as a living entity, always growing and changing. "It is all of you who were the learners in New Hall who have contributed most to New Hall and what it is now”, she said.
New Hall was founded to attract outstanding applicants regardless of their financial resources, and this remains the single most important principle of Murray Edwards College. The Rosemary Murray Fund enables the College to support students in financial need by awarding undergraduate and graduate bursaries, travel grants and academic needs grants for fieldtrips and lab work-placements.
Over the last five years we have received pledges totalling over £1.4million for this Fund, but as the cost of higher education increases, so does the need for financial support. With your help we can build up this endowment fund further, to ensure no UK student is deterred from applying for a place at Murray Edwards for financial reasons. Your help will also enable us to increase the support we offer to exceptionally gifted overseas applicants.
"Cambridge is just the sort of place where I've always wanted to be - at the cutting-edge of world academia - and I am grateful beyond words for all the financial help I have received from the College and the University that has turned studying here from a dream into a reality."
