Pearl House (formerly New Block) was opened in 1994 by Dr Valerie Pearl, the College's second President, and Mr Yasuto Kaetsu, President of the Kaetsu Foundation. Pearl House's modern, purpose-built accommodation has all that a student might need, including bed, desk, wardrobe, shelving, sockets for telephone and the faster than broadband computer network and en-suite bathroom facilities. The rooms are pleasantly decorated, with light furniture and colourful curtains making them a bright, welcoming place to live and work. At one end of each floor are additional bathroom facilities; a communal kitchen is situated at the mid-point. A number of rooms have been specially adapted for people with disabilities, and wheelchair access is available to each floor via the central lift.
In the basement of Pearl House you can find the fully-equipped laundry, with plenty of washing machines and tumble dryers. Additional communal facilities within are a short walk away in the main College building and include the bar, the television/video room (with cable TV), and the JCR, at the top of H staircase. This is a great place to sink back into the large sofas and relax, read the papers, drink coffee and surf using the wireless network.
