Dr Rebecca SimmonsSupernumerary Fellow in Epidemiology Murray Edwards College Telephone:01223 769159 ProfileRebecca Simmons read Human Sciences at Hertford College, Oxford, and Epidemiology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. She subsequently carried out research into the primary prevention of diabetes, and in 2007, obtained her Ph.D. Degree from the MRC Epidemiology Unit, at Wolfson College, Cambridge. Rebecca remains at the Unit as a post-doc Investigator Scientist. Rebecca's current research focuses on risk identification, screening, and the primary and secondary prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular disease. She is particularly interested in developing primary prevention strategies for larger groups of people at lower absolute risk of chronic disease. Rebecca is involved in teaching epidemiology and statistics to Cambridge medical students and MPhil Epidemiology students. She is also a tutor on the London School's distance learning MSc course in Epidemiology. Rebecca became a Fellow of Murray Edwards in January 2011, and is currently responsible for supervising first year medical students on the "Introduction to the Scientific Basis of Medicine" course. |
