Dr Evaleila Pesaran is a College Lecturer in Politics. Her research focuses on processes of economic and political reform in the Middle East, with particular reference to Iran. She is broadly interested in questions of sovereignty and the consequences of foreign economic involvement in the Middle East. Her current research project explores the role of the Anglo-Persian Oil Company (now BP) in the formation and development of the 20th century Iranian state.
Dr Pesaran received her BA in Persian Studies from the University of Oxford (Wadham College) and her MSc in Development Studies from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London. She completed her doctoral thesis, which examined the debate over foreign investment in post-revolutionary Iran, at the Department of Politics and International Studies, SOAS.
