Offer an Internship
Work placements and internships are highly valued by our students, especially in the current economic climate where they find it harder to explore and gain entry to many career fields. Internships and work placements enable undergraduates:
- to explore job sectors at first hand
- to showcase their own skills and aptitude
- to develop the professionalism of their approach
- to expand their career networks
Feedback suggests that employers benefit too, in terms of the contribution of the individual student and the direct engagement with the Cambridge undergraduate job market.
In response to student demand, in 2012 the College launched its new Internship Initiative, part of our Gateway Programme, offering a set of internships and work placements specifically for MEC students. Careers workshops in the Academic Development Programme help students to prepare, and Gateway Challenges Funding can be used towards accommodation expenses etc.
Following the success of the pilot scheme, with 21 students securing internships, we expect to expand the Internship Initiative in 2012-13, to include a wider range of opportunities and a broader geographical spread. We would be delighted to work with alumnae in expanding the range and number of opportunities available.
If you would like to offer an internship through this scheme, please contact gateway@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk. If you are interested in working with the College in other ways, e.g. mentoring, please contact development@murrayedwards.cam.ac.uk.
